SPRINT
Sprint is an event,
which takes place on a smooth sealed surface, over a measured
distance against the clock, car start signally, however sev eral can
be on the course at anyone time. A wide variety of cars compete,
from single-seaters to standard production saloons, divided into
classes by types and engine capacity.
Venues range from picturesque
private estates, seaside promenades,
airfields to kart circuits.
The last sprint Burnham-on-Sea Motor
Club promoted was in July 2005 jointly promoted by RNAC.
Merryfield Sprint was held on the RNAS Merryfield which is a fully
operational airfield; it is a satellite station to RNAS Yeovilton
situated three miles North of Ilminster. Most weeks will see in
excess of 250 a/c take off/landings conducted at the field.
The
Sprint Circuit used the airfield perimeter track and offered
competitors a 3.1 mile single lap circuit of super smooth tarmac
with both fast and challenging sections and for an airfield, a
surprising degree of contour.
Unfortunately since the event in 2005
it has not been possible to secure the venue, but attempts are still
being made.
